Recovery Capital: More Than Willpower

Recovery is supported by health, home, purpose, community, skills, resources, hope, transportation, housing, employment, and financial stability.

Recovery has to live somewhere: in a body, a home, a schedule, a community, a bank account, relationships, and a reason to get up tomorrow.

What matters in practice

Internal recovery capital includes hope, knowledge, skills, self-awareness, and problem-solving. External recovery capital includes housing, food, transportation, work, health care, money, peers, family, faith, and community.

The boundary

The goal is not to create a list of failures. It is to identify strengths, gaps, and the next resource or habit that can strengthen the foundation.
