Helping Without Rescuing
Support should strengthen another person’s ability to act. Boundaries, clear roles, and accountability protect both people.
Helping is not the same as taking over. Service should strengthen another person’s ability to act.
What matters in practice
A healthy offer may be: “I will sit with you while you make the call,” “I can drive you to the appointment,” or “I will review the plan with you tomorrow.” The person still owns the action.
The boundary
Boundaries are not rejection. Clear limits protect the helper, the relationship, and the person receiving support.
